Project 1- Different Approach to Landscapes and Nature

Aperture: f / 5.3
Shutter Speed: 1/320
ISO: 100

I took this picture in back of Top of the Hill Grill in Brattleboro. Landscapes and Nature was my favorite assignment from Photo 1, but the only photos I took were of the sunrise, or during the day. I decided for my different approach, I would use the golden hours at sunset, and try some silhouetting rather than just photographing the landscape. This tree was set perfectly in front of the sun and clouds, so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to experiment more with silhouettes. I used fairly low aperture, because I wanted most of the focus to be on the tree branches rather than the background. I used a higher shutter speed to freeze the action of the clouds, and also to try and avoid any motion blur from me accidentally moving. The low ISO was to avoid any noise in the picture. If I could change something about this picture, I think I would have tried to capture it a little sooner, when the sun was still up and behind the clouds more, but I'm still happy with how this came out!

Journal #1- My Best Photo

Aperture: f / 22.0
Shutter Speed: 1/50
ISO: 100

I took this picture during my sophomore year when I took Photography 1. It's from the Landscapes and Nature unit, and it is an HDR. It has 5 layers of different exposures, and I was really happy with how the lighting ended up coming out. This is a sunrise picture from a trip I took to Maine, and the lighting and color of the sun coming up is one of the things I really like about this picture. I also think the rule of thirds is nice, and I like the texture of the water and rocks. I consider this my best photo, because I love the location it was taken, and how much light and color was brought out because it's an HDR.
