People as a Subject (Part 1)

Self Portrait

Aperture: f / 3.8
Shutter Speed: 1/10
ISO: 100

I took this picture in my living room. I moved a bunch of stuff off of the wall, so I had a clear background. I used created lighting for this shot, by pointing a lamp at myself. I like the look on my face, and it took quite a few tries to make this face without laughing. I think that this picture describes who I am, because even though I do consider myself pretty girly, but I am also really into sports, and play a sport every season, and during the summer. If I could change something about this picture, I would definitely try to have better lighting. I had to make this photo a black and white, because I didn't like the lighting. I also took out a lot of unnecessary shadows. Even though the lighting is kind of weird, I like this picture because I think it really describes me.

Teacher Picture #1

Aperture: f / 5.3
Shutter Speed: 1/15
ISO: 400
This is a picture of the ceramics teacher, Ms. DeNiord. I am taking ceramics with her this semester, so I thought she would be a great teacher to photograph. I believe that this picture describes what she teaches, because she shows us how to make a lot of stuff on the wheel, and she's really good at it. There are a couple things I wish I could change about this picture, though. One, is the busy background. There wasn't rally any way to avoid it, because we couldn't move the wheel, or any things in the background. I also wish that her head was up a little bit more, so I could see more of her face. Overall, I think that this is a really nice picture, and it really describes what Ms. DeNiord teaches.

Extra Credit

Aperture: f / 4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/15
ISO: 400
This picture was taken on Friday during fourth block. I thought that the extra police force being on campus was a really great opportunity to do the extra credit and define a person, as a police officer. I like how in focus the two men are, and how their faces are really sharp. If I could change something about this picture, I would have them standing against a more plain background. But overall, I'm pretty happy with how this picture turned out.

People as a Subject (Part 2)

Teacher Picture #2-

Aperture: f / 5.3
Shutter Speed: 1/40
ISO: 400

This is a picture of the foods teacher, Mrs. Cormier. She is one of my favorite teachers, so I thought she would be a great staff member to photograph. I like how focused she looks in this picture, and even though the background isn't completely plain, I think that the spice rack adds to her description as a foods teacher. If I were to retake this picture, I might of had her looking up a little bit more, so you could see more of her eyes and face.

Candid-

Aperture: f / 5.0
Shutter Speed: 1/200
ISO: 400

I took this picture of my friend Aisha. She was laughing at something one of her friends said, and when she started laughing, I caught her off guard by snapping a few photos. She thought I only had my camera out to check the photos I already have, so she wasn't expecting the picture to be taken. I really like how it looks as a black and white.  I also like how she isn't looking right at the camera, because the profile look is kind of cool. If I could retake this picture, I think I would've had an even smaller aperture, so the background was a little bit more blurred out.

Loved One-

Aperture: f  / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/80
ISO: 400

This is my dog, Daisy. She is eleven years old. I really like this picture of her, because I love how the wind is blowing her ears back, and how she is looking into the wind as well. I also like the fuzzy look of her fur. If I could change something about this picture, I would try and make the snow look less dirty in photoshop, and also use a lower aperture so the leaves in the background were blurred out. Overall, I am pretty happy with how this picture came out.

Journal #10

I took this picture on Saturday, while I was driving to the mall with my mom. We were on the highway and it thought that the clouds looked really cool, so I decided to take a picture. I like how the picture almost looks black and white, even though it isn't. If I could change something about this picture, I would've taken in while I was stationary, and not moving. I think I would've been able to add more details to the picture that way. Other than that, I like the way that this picture came out.

Journal #9- Missed Opportunity

This weekend, I was playing indoor soccer. My friend Sarah is on the team, and she was trying to get the ball when she got tripped. She sort of guitar slid across the artificial grass, and it was really funny! She had a hilarious laughing face when she was sliding. I didn't have any kind of camera with me, and it happened very quickly, so I didn't have a chance to get the picture.

Journal #8- Missed Opportunity

Over the weekend, I was hanging out at home and it started snowing outside. It was different than the snow we've been getting though. These were huge flakes, and they were so pretty! I really wanted to get a picture with them with my DSLR, but by the time I got my camera, the snow wasn't nearly as pretty. Next time I'll try and get my camera quicker!

Landscapes and Nature Project (Part 2)

Vertical Landcape

Aperture: f / 22.0
Shutter Speed: 1/50
ISO: 100

I took this picture on Tuesday morning on the beach in Wells, Maine. I woke up at 6AM just to get a good sunrise shot, and I'm really glad that it came out well. This photo is an HDR, and it has five layers of different exposures in it. I'm really happy with the surrealist look that it has.

Black and White

Aperture: f / 5.3
Shutter Speed: 1/320
ISO: 100
I took this picture on West Hill in Dummerston, Vermont. I really like the details in all of the trees, not only the larger one, but the smaller ones behind it, too. If I could change something about this picture, I would take the little fence near the large tree out, because it is not something from nature.

Soft Water

Aperture: f / 22.0
Shutter Speed: 0.5
ISO: 200
This picture was taken on Brook Road in Putney, Vermont. I turned it into a black and white because I thought that it made the details in the banks on the sides of the water stand out more. I like how the rule of thirds is pretty evident in this photo, with the water starting on the left and drawing your eye up to the top of the image. If I could change something, I definitely would have made the shutter speed even larger, so the water had a softer effect than it does now.

Journal #7

I took this picture on Tuesday in Maine. It was absolutely freezing outside, and I was trying to get some pictures of this lighthouse quickly, so I could get back into the heated car. I really like the blue colors in this photo, and the snow covered rocks in the foreground. If I could retake this picture, I would probably do it with a DSLR camera, because I think that I could get more details in the far away lighthouse. But overall, I think that this photo came out pretty well!

Landscapes and Nature Project (Part 1)

Horizontal Closeup

Aperture: / 4.0
Shutter Speed: 1/250
ISO: 100

This picture was taken in a field off of West Hill in Putney, Vermont. I saw the cattails on the edge of the field, and I thought they would be a great closeup photo opportunity. I really love how the low aperture makes the cattails in front really in focus, and everything behind them is blurry. I also really like the snow flurries in the background, and how there are the little pieces of fuzz on the cattails. If I could change something about this photo, I think I would have tried to focus on one individual cattail rather than two.

Horizontal Landscape (Panorama)

Aperture: f / 22.0
Shutter Speed: 1/15
ISO: 100

This picture was taken on Bunker Road, in Dummerston, Vermont. I really like how the higher aperture makes everything in focus. This photo was kind of hard to take, because I had to make the tripod very tall to be able to get this landscape over the huge snowbank next to where I was standing. Once I merged the pictures together, I made the colors stand out more, especially the blue in the sky. If I could change this picture, I would try to make the snow pile at the bottom of the image more white, and less yellow.

Vertical Closeup

Aperture: f / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/4000
ISO: 400

This picture was taken at my grandparents house in Putney, Vermont. I was sitting on a stool on their deck for about 30 minutes, just taking pictures of the birds. I am really proud of this picture. I had been trying to get a shot of a bird in flight for the entire time, but the birds weren't being very cooperative. When I finally got one, I was very happy. I like how the high shutter speed makes the bird and it's wings really in focus. I also think that the color of the sky is really nice in the background. Thats what I focused on fixing in bridge, making the blue sky stand out a lot. I'm honestly not really sure what else I would want to change about this image. I'm really happy with how it turned out!
