Journal #7 (K+L)

K- Knick-Knack

I took this picture of some sand dollars and shells that I have in my house. They're on a shelf we have that holds a bunch of little miscellaneous knick knacks that have been collected. I took this with my phone, and it has a lower aperture, probably higher shutter speed, and I used flash. I don't like how you can see the pieces of dust that were on the shelf, so if I could've retaken this I would have cleaned around the shells first.

 L- Lake

I took this picture with my phone over the weekend during my trip to New York. It has a high aperture, and most likely a lower shutter speed. It was very cloudy and rainy outside, so the sky and landscape isn't as pretty as it could've been, but I still like how it came out. If I could redo this picture, I would take it with a DSLR to get more detail in the parts of the landscape that are farther away.

Journal #6 (I+J)

I-Ice

Aperture: f / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/125
ISO: 800

I took this picture of some ice and snow that was on the ground in my backyard. I used a low aperture to keep the foreground out of focus, and a high shutter speed to compensate. I really like how much detail you can see in the ice, and how there are little pieces of dirt stuck within it to make the image more interesting. If I could redo this I might've tried to find a bigger chunk of ice so I had more subject material to work with.

J- Jigsaw Puzzle

Aperture: f / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/15
ISO: 100

I took this picture of the puzzle pieces from a jigsaw puzzle that I had in my house. I used a low aperture to get just the set of pieces in the front in focus, and a high-ish shutter speed to avoid blur, and also because there was a lot of light in the room I was in. I like how much the red pieces in front stand out, and how your eye is sort of drawn to them. If I could change something about this picture, I would try to light it a little bit better, because I think the lighting is too warm.

Journal #5 (G +H)

G-Green

Aperture: f / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/125
ISO: 800

I took this picture of a baby pine tree that's in my backyard. I used my telephoto lens, a low aperture, and higher shutter speed. I really like how just the little green needles from the tree are in focus, and the background is all very blurry. If I could change anything about this photo, I would have maybe tried to take it with some different lighting, maybe on a day that was less cloudy.

H-Hair

Aperture: f / 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/15
ISO: 100

I took this picture of my mom's hair. The lighting in the room we were in wasn't very good, so I used a flash to make the picture brighter. I really like the shape and lines of the curls in her hair, and I think it's funny because it's so similar to my hair. I decided to try and focus more on one curl rather than her whole head of hair, because I thought it would be more interesting. If I could change anything about this, I would try and get better natural lighting, so you couldn't' see the reflection of the flash.
